One-year-old Matthews Charter Academy stood out at a recent Cross Country meet.
The Matthew's boys and girls teams competed against more than 100 other students on five to six teams from the area. The boys cross country team placed third and the girl's team placed fourth.
“I’m unbelievably proud of this team,” said TJ Toteno, physical education teacher at Matthews.
The team was the first from MCA to compete in any sport since the school opened last year.
“Of the teams, we were the youngest, with no eighth graders, and the smallest team out there,” said Jeanne Laney, K-8 art teacher at MCA. “They gave it everything they had and finished like champs. They made history.”
Three boys and one girl from MCA placed in the top 10 overall.
Way to go, MCA!
