Incoming Elementary Students Create Sand Art, Acclimate Themselves to School

Families looking for a creative event to immerse themselves in found a fun time recently at Matthews Charter Academy. The school held a Summer Fun Sand Art event for incoming kindergarten through fifth grade families.

Children used different colors of sand to fill different shaped containers to create their own art. Bright reds, yellows, blues, and greens were used to form layers in the vessels which the kids were able to manipulate to create different designs.

Students were able to create sand art in different shapes, like this star.

“The families could come play on the playground and I had sidewalk chalk and bubbles as well,” Matthews Admissions Representative Mary Funderburk said. “The kids could pick a sand art necklace or bottle and fill it with their own sand art design.”

The Social Cow Ice Cream truck was also on site with treats to purchase.

Matthews families created chalk art during the event.
Art was a great theme as chalk art was also created at the school.

The event created a great opportunity for new students to become familiar with the school, playground, and some staff members in attendance.

The school hosts multiple special events throughout the summer and schedules events offsite as well, including a meetup at a local splash pad, and a webinar that helps parents determine if their child is ready for kindergarten.
