The ranking is based on Pembroke’s school index score compared to other schools in Detroit. It’s no surprise considering the Young 5 through grade eight National Heritage Academies (NHA) school is helping students thrive, outperforming the local district.
Pembroke was recently featured in a Metro Parent article focusing on the unique way the academy helps all students achieve reading success.
It starts on day one with a reading assessment which helps determine which grade a student is placed when they enter the school.
“By testing the students first and placing them in a classroom that is right at their instruction level, it puts the student at a range in which they can learn,” said Principal Salwa Kinsey.
Students say seeing their grades improve helps motivate them to work even harder. Parents say the placement strategy is working and are seeing better grades along with improved self-esteem and confidence.
In the fall 2022-23 parent survey, parents said they “love the challenging academics and seeing their children improve.”
Ninety-five percent of parents at Pembroke said they believe their children are receiving a high-quality education.
Pembroke Academy's commitment to fostering a supportive and effective learning environment is truly something to celebrate!
