Eagle Crest Charter Academy Named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 26, 2019 — Eagle Crest Charter Academy, a Holland-area public charter school managed by National Heritage Academies (NHA), was named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education today.
They are one of 8 elementary schools in Michigan to receive this distinction in 2019 out of 362 schools nationwide, and were identified as an Exemplary High Performing School, which means they are among the state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally recognized tests.
“I am overwhelmed with excitement and pride,” said Eagle Crest Principal Louise Moore. “Our students and teachers daily strive for academic excellence, and to close achievement gaps, so to see their hard work and dedication recognized is a very special honor.”
In the 2018-19 school year, Eagle Crest Charter Academy outperformed its local district on the state test, and has outperformed the local district for the past six years. During the 2018-19 school year, Eagle Crest also outperformed the state. Since its opening in 1997, more than 900 students have graduated from the school.
“The core tenets of this award are to celebrate exemplary teaching and learning,” NHA President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Britton said. “Our parents, students, and staff should take pride in achieving this noble distinction. I know they will continue to do great things and look forward to celebrating this and future successes with them.”
This year marks the 37th year that the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 9,000 schools across the country. Public and non-public schools are eligible for the award and may be nominated once within a five-year period.
On Nov. 14 and 15, the Secretary and U.S. Department of Education will host honorees for a national awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
