“It makes us proud to see those families that have had a lasting partnership with Winterville Charter Academy are now also seeing the fruits of their labor regarding citizenship, and academic achievement,” Winterville Principal Annastasia Ryan said. “We love to see that those scholars were given genuine affirmation and appreciation for their hard work.”
To be eligible for this honor, students needed to maintain an 85% average in school for the entire 2021-22 school year and have demonstrated each Moral Focus trait in excellent form.
Dr. Reginald Obi, a nephrologist in Greenville, N.C., spoke to the students and their families about the importance of a strong work ethic and dedication to studying.
“He shared the connection between his hard work and his achievements leading to him graduating from medical school at the age of 20.” Ryan said. “He summarized his story by sharing with our scholars that he went into medicine to honor his father by acting as a servant leader who could now give back to others. It was a wonderful message.”
Ryan said an added element of joy was just being able to host the ceremony after canceling so much during COVID.
“These events, and those upcoming events such as our spelling bees, science fairs, award ceremonies, and athletic events are back in action,” she said. “These efforts allow our community visibility to the true accomplishments of our children, efforts of our teachers, and philosophies of our school.”
