Wellspring Connects with NBA G League Team
Wellspring Preparatory High School partnered with the Grand Rapids Gold, an NBA G League affiliate of the defending league champion Denver Nuggets, for a community-based assist. Students attended a clinic on Jan. 5 and had a “Wellspring Night” at the Gold’s game.
About 75 students attended the clinic hosted by players from the Gold on their home court. At the Gold’s game that night, the school hosted an information table to increase awareness of the school in the Grand Rapids area, spreading the word of Wellspring Prep outperforming the local district over the last two years. Along with students and parents showing their school spirit, the opportunity also created a greater alignment and support between Wellspring Prep and its five feeder schools – Walker Charter Academy, Knapp Charter Academy, Ridge Park Charter Academy, River City Scholars, and Chandler Woods Charter Academy.
“The players really enjoyed the opportunity to play on the court at Van Andel with the Grand Rapids Gold, meet some of the players, and hear tips from some of the coaches,” said Emily Hurrell, Wellspring Preparatory High School principal. “There was a really great response all around, they had a great time.”
