Alumni from Queen’s Grant Community School gathered last week to visit with former teachers and celebrate their high school graduations.
As they greeted each other with hugs and laughter, the teachers and students reminisced about the Washington D.C. trip they took together, their eighth-grade formal, and fun times doing work as a teacher’s assistant.
“One of the great things about Queen’s Grant is that we’ve always had a family kind of atmosphere, and you can see that in these reunions,” said Melissa Carpenter, library/technology specialist, who organized the reunion. “Students and teachers are laughing, hugging, talking, and just generally enjoying each other’s company again. We love getting to see them as they stand on the brink of adulthood, ready to go out and achieve their hopes and dreams. It’s great to have one more chance to love on them, encourage them, and send them out into the world.”
The reunion has taken place at the school since the first eighth-grade class graduated, said Carpenter. Out of approximately 80 graduates per year, around 50 students attend the reunion each year.
The students who attended this year shared about their offers of admittance to many different universities. The schools included: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (multiple students), North Carolina State University, Clemson University (multiple students), Florida State University, University of South Carolina (multiple students), University of Georgia, Boston College, Smith College, Lehigh University, Guilford College, Liberty University, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, James Madison University, and Saint Augustine University.
The alumni enjoyed walking through the halls together again. Before leaving, they took a group shot.
Congratulations on your academic success, Queen’s Grant alumni!
