The middle school Zumba team at Warrendale Charter Academy collected nearly 400 mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats in the month of November to give to the kindergarten through second-grade classes.
“They were so successful that they were able to give every student in kindergarten through second grade a gift,” said Lynn Harris, a parapro at Warrendale who coordinates the Zumba team.
The team distributed the 384 donations to classes before winter break and taught the students a holiday dance routine that was performed in front of the entire student body and their parents.
"It was a great experience to help out students who were in need to keep warm," said eighth-grade student, Jacaria O'Neal.
Harris’s goal is to teach the team the values of strength, excellence, and character.
“This project shows that the team is on the right track,” said Harris.
