Southside Academy Charter School recently gathered to celebrate the upcoming back to school season with its annual Picnic with the Principal event. Staff members and families came together for this fun-filled afternoon in recognition of National Back to School Month, which takes place throughout August.
Picnic with the Principal allowed parents and families the opportunity to connect with teachers, tour the school, learn about the school’s personalized instruction, and meet Dr. Jeff White, principal at Southside Charter Academy.
“Research demonstrates a strong link between experiences of celebrations and other events including ‘Picnic with the Principal,’ and the school spirit and general atmosphere,” said Jeff White, principal at Southside Charter Academy. “Scholars enjoy a very positive school spirit, appreciate school events, and believe school-wide events to be significant factors in generating the overall atmosphere that creates a positive and nurturing school learning environment.”
The event allowed community members to enjoy grilled food while learning about Southside’s Moral Focus curriculum and various enrichment activities. Throughout the afternoon, attendees played board games including UNO and Jenga, and young scholars enjoyed getting their faces painted.
The back to school season is a vital time for young learners who are eager to learn new experiences and begin exploring new subject matter in the coming weeks. National Back to School Month, celebrated every year since the 1960s, gears up parents, teachers, schools, and students for a new season of education.
