South Arbor recently welcomed their incoming kindergarten and Young 5s students during a fun circus-themed event. Throughout the event, students toured their classrooms and had the opportunity to meet their teacher and classmates. Parents attended an informational meeting with the school’s administration team to learn about the school’s personalized instruction and expectations for the year.
In the classrooms, students played circus games such as ring toss, pin the nose on the clown, and a bean bag toss. The students also enjoyed completing clown coloring sheets and circus scratch-off crafts.
“The goal of this event is having students come into the school to meet their teachers and classmates,” said Jenny Ross, school ambassador at South Arbor Charter Academy. “We know that going to school for the first time can be scary for students, so we hope that we can ease any worries on the first day of school.”
To add to the festivities, staff members wore t-shirts that read: “Welcome to the Greatest School on the Earth” with a circus tent and school name on the front, and on the back, the shirts read Ringmaster with the staff member’s last name.
South Arbor has hosted a different themed welcome event each year for many years. In the past, the event has been either a beach theme or a circus theme, alternating annually.
Throughout the evening, students and parents could capture a memory of the evening by posing in the circus photo booth. After the event, students received a tub of popcorn and a South Arbor Cinch Sak backpack.
“The parents enjoyed having the opportunity to learn more information about the school and then meet their child’s teacher too,” said Ross.
