Peak Charter Academy was one of several National Heritage Academies (NHA) schools in North Carolina that gathered donations and supplies to help other schools and families affected by Hurricane Florence.
Peak Charter Academy families donated more than $2,000 to the Red Cross and 10 wagons full of books to Book Harvest to support those in need.
In October, Peak plans to continue to collect donations in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post nearby to provide essential goods to those recovering from Hurricane Florence. They are collecting diapers, toiletries, bottled water, baby formula, work gloves, and more.
Winterville Charter Academy also collected donations for families affected by the recent hurricane.
"We were able to help two of our families that were affected and more families outside of the school," said Asiyah Khatoon, admission representative at Winterville.
Johnston Charter Academy parents coordinated efforts to work with other schools in the community to gather school supplies for a school and children impacted by Hurricane Florence. The supplies went to WJ Gurganus Elementary in Havelock, N.C. The supplies were collected during the morning carpool and near the crosswalk as parents walked their scholars in.
Summerfield Charter Academy is currently holding a school-wide service project "Pennies for People". The National Junior Honor Society placed collection jars in each homeroom and a small poster explaining details of the service project. Money collected will be donated to the All Hearts and Hands-First Response, an organization that is helping clean up and rebuild after Hurricane Florence.
Great job, N.C. Schools!
