Excellence in Teaching Award Was Years in the Making for Angel

Note: This is one in a series recognizing winners of the 2022-23 NHA Excellence Awards, a program that honors educators, deans, and administrative teams across our network.

After years of matriculating at Peak Charter Academy, Savannah Angel had the opportunity to teach the class of kindergarteners who started as the youngest of the school’s first student body.

She had seen their development from the beginning at Peak, which has outperformed the local district since it opened in 2017-18. And in the 2022-23 school year, she had the pleasure of having them under her tutelage in sixth-grade science. It made for a special year for Angel, who was honored as an Excellence in Teaching winner as part of the National Heritage Academies (NHA) Excellence Awards for the 2022-23 school year.

“Watching them grow and develop over the years and finally having the chance to be their teacher was incredibly fulfilling,” she said. “It felt like coming full circle, seeing how far they've come and contributing to their continued learning journey.”

Angel said she is fortunate to have an incredible team around her each year to help her at Peak.

“My teammates were not only skilled and dedicated educators but also supportive and inspiring individuals,” she said. “Working with them made the daily challenges of teaching more manageable and even enjoyable. The camaraderie and mutual support within our team created a collaborative and nurturing work environment.”

Known for teaching in line with her Type B personality, Angel is thankful to have a supportive administration team that gives her a positive and encouraging environment, making the 2022-23 school year particularly memorable and rewarding.

“They have given me so many leadership opportunities and it has helped me grow tremendously as an educator,” she said. “I am so grateful to be a part of the Peak Charter Academy family.”

Keep up the excellent work, Ms. Angel!
