Second-graders from Mrs. Hemler’s class at North Dayton School of Discovery recently had the opportunity to meet a local celebrity and broadcast legend, Tom Nichols from the Dayton Dragons Baseball team.
Mr. Nichols is in his 11th season as the voice of the Dragons, and he recently called his 4,000th career professional baseball game in August.
During his visit, he showed the students his broadcast equipment and shared photos of the Dayton Dragon baseball field. Mr. Nichols tested the scholars with a game of trivia and, as a reward, the winning students received Dayton Dragon hats and baseball bobble-heads.
“The students were super excited to learn about his position with the baseball team,” said Victoria Vyborny, North Dayton principal-in-residence. “We appreciated his time and the opportunity to build community connections by bringing what the city has to offer into the classroom.”
Each student received a green, Dayton Dragon baseball cap as a souvenir from the event.
