Meet Mountain View Academy Principal Natalia Brunton

Driven by a lifelong passion for education, Natalia Brunton came to America as an international student. Though she initially aspired to be a math teacher, her growing exposure to foreign languages in Russia led her to pursue English and German studies. After studying abroad in Germany, Natalia fully committed to a career in education, stating, “I never considered another path.”

In 1998, Natalia arrived at the University of Colorado Springs to continue her English studies. “I was eager to explore more of the world,” she recalls. She later earned a doctorate from the same university in 2018.

Natalia began her teaching career at a school where many students had never left their immediate community. She was determined to broaden their horizons and inspire them to see the world as a “positive place to explore,” filled with opportunities. A passionate traveler fluent in multiple languages, Natalia has visited nearly every continent.

Last year, National Heritage Academies (NHA) welcomed Principal Brunton to the Mountain View Academy family. With over two decades of experience, Principal Brunton empowers students, teachers, and staff to become their best selves: “As a teacher, I empowered students. Now, I can empower staff and teachers to be exceptional so they can provide incredible opportunities for students to learn and grow.”

Natalia is committed to supporting teachers and helping them stay in the classroom, impacting more lives. She constantly asks, “How do we build up young educators so they feel confident, build the skills to succeed, and stay in this career?” She fosters connections through big and small actions, including her love of cooking, often preparing meals for her staff to bond and relax during busy times.

Parental partnership and engagement are key to Natalia’s philosophy. She often spends her commute talking to parents, discussing everything from daily events to issues that need addressing. “It truly takes a village to raise a child,” she says. “Parents have more influence than educators. We are fortunate to have a very supportive and engaged parent community. They bring invaluable knowledge, expertise, and resources.”

Natalia draws inspiration from comedian Steve Martin’s quote: “Be so good they can’t ignore you.” This mindset has guided her pursuit of excellence throughout her career, especially as an immigrant woman. She aims to inspire her staff and students to excel in something valuable.
