Millie Lippert-Baca is the kindergarten teacher who leads Kinder Camp. “Kinder Camp is really a great opportunity for kindergartners to get just a glimpse of Mountain View Academy,” she explains.
Over two hours, kids take part in a variety of activities, from a read-aloud session to craft time. The tour of the school is a highlight, as kids learn about key spots like the cafeteria, playground, and specials classrooms. “We showed them how to line up, where to go for recess, and even how to clean up after snack time,” Lippert-Baca adds. This early exposure helps kids feel right at home when school starts.
Shelby Sevier, who not only helped with Kinder Camp but also had her own child attend, shared her thoughts on the experience. “It’s great for both kids and parents to get those first-day jitters out of the way. Seeing the school and meeting other parents helped calm everyone’s nerves,” she notes.
Lippert-Baca has seen firsthand how Kinder Camp sets kids up for success at Mountain View Academy, a school that outperforms the local district. “It helps them know a couple of things before coming on the first day,” she says. By the time the first day rolls around, many kids already know how to line up, sit on the carpet, and navigate the school. It’s all about making them feel comfortable and ready to dive into their new routines.
Great job helping set students feel more confident and excited for their first day of school!
