Throughout December, students and staff at Milwaukee Scholars collected over 500 non-perishable food items for their Seasons of Giving Food Drive. The items that were collected were donated to the local Salvation Army.
The food drive was organized by the Community Partnership Committee, a new staff initiative at Milwaukee Scholars, which aims to provide opportunities to parents in the community and create relationships with organizations throughout the community.
“Ms. Bishop’s eighth-grade class took first place in our contest by collecting 135 items," said Patty Ruiter, admissions representative at Milwaukee Scholars. “The school collected a grand total of 534 non-perishable food items.”
Second place went to Ms. Gonzalez’s fourth-grade class with 53 items, and third place went to Ms. Phillips’ third-grade class with 51 items collected.
The class that collected the most food during the drive earned a pizza party, and the second and third place classrooms received a dress-down day.
“The Salvation Army was very thankful for the donations,” said Ruiter.
Great job, Milwaukee Scholars!
