Milwaukee Scholars Charter School Hosts Back to School Block Party

Milwaukee Scholars Charter School recently hosted their third annual Back to School Block Party community event to boost student excitement for their return to school this week.

The event allowed parents and families to meet Nikole Laskov, principal at Milwaukee Scholars Charter Academy, connect with teachers, tour the school, and learn about the school’s personalized instruction.

The Block Party welcomed students, families, and community members to participate in fun activities including games, bounce houses, balloon animals, face painting, popcorn and popsicles, prizes, and food trucks. A local radio station also joined the festivities to provide music for all attendees.

During the event, staff teamed up with parents to braid students’ hair to help them prepare for their return to school. Students were showing off their big grins after getting their hair braided for the new year.

“Milwaukee Scholars is aiming to be the change by building relationships and self-confidence in our scholars,” said Danielle Jones, academic behavioral specialist at Milwaukee Scholars.

In addition, there were backpack and school supply giveaways to get students ready for the year. Milwaukee Scholars staff members were at the Block Party with their classrooms open so families could see the classrooms and drop off school supplies.
