“Eclipse day was a fantastic moment for our school community," shared Kimberly Johnson, principal at Metro Charter Academy. "Our teachers organized engaging activities in classrooms, allowing students to understand the science behind a solar eclipse."
Later in the day, they continued learning outside. "We provided eclipse glasses for every student and teacher," Johnson continued, "and even had extras available for parents who wanted to join in." This ensured that everyone could safely witness the phenomenon without any safety concerns.
Despite the eclipse not reaching totality, it left a significant impression. "It got dark enough for the children to notice the change in daylight when the moon partially covered the sun. You could feel the drop in temperature," explained Johnson.
The experience left many in awe, especially the younger students. Capitalizing on moments like these is one of the many reasons Metro has eclipsed the local district since it opened before the 2007-08 school year. "You could feel the excitement and see it on their faces," Johnson added. "I hope everyone, especially our students, took away the magic of science. To witness such an event with the school community and their parents—it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Johnson’s pride in her students and staff was evident. "It warmed my heart. Seeing their excitement made it all worthwhile," she admitted.
Great job to everyone at Metro Charter Academy for helping create lasting memories for your entire school community!
