Staff at Johnston Charter Academy (JCA) get ready for the new school year with a handful of creative and engaging activities to spark back-to-school excitement.
They had a session on the FISH Philosophy, which encourages engagement and high energy in workplaces by using four practices: Be There, Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, and Play.
In the spirit of play in a professional environment, the staff participated in a creative activity that involved department teams designing wedding dresses using toilet paper and other accessories in under 25 minutes. The winning team, determined by the Administrative team judges, was awarded bragging rights, chocolate, and coffee.
“We all had a lot of fun and our teachers got to exhibit their fabulous creative streaks, which we know they have here at JCA,” said Kerry Chisnall, principal at Johnston Charter Academy.
The Johnston family kept the back-to-school spirit alive by participating in a Paint by Design activity after a workday. The design was education themed and easy to use in their classrooms.
The staff were well taken care of during their craft time with a supply of cheese, crackers, and sparkling juice, “to provide some appropriate ambiance,” said Chisnall.
“I think these activities have tapped into the energy that our teachers returned with coming off summer break and have helped develop a positive and fun tone in the building as we prepare for our students to return,” said Chisnall. “These activities help establish an element of trust and camaraderie, also.”
