Meet Holly Park Academy Principal Rosalind Burt

Rosalind Burt is the kind of leader who knows that the best results come from working together. Her favorite saying, “Teamwork makes the dream work,” isn’t just a motto—it’s how she leads every day.

Growing up on a farm in Georgia, Burt’s childhood started far from the hustle and bustle of modern life. With no electricity and an outhouse in the yard, she was surrounded by goats, pigs, and wide-open spaces. This upbringing taught her the values of hard work, resilience, and determination—qualities that have carried her through every stage of her career.

Even as a young girl, Burt knew she was destined to teach. “Watching my fifth-grade teacher inspired me to want to teach. I thought she was a great teacher,” Burt recalls.

That inspiration led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Chicago State University, followed by a master’s in K-12 administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix.

Now, as the principal at Holly Park Academy, Burt’s passion for education shows in everything she does. Before coming to Holly Park, one of her proudest achievements was becoming the founding principal of Center Line Preparatory Academy, where her leadership earned her numerous awards, including National Heritage Academies’ prestigious 5-Star Award and State Accountability recognition.

Burt’s approach is all about structure, accountability, and high standards. These qualities might make some think she has a military background, but she is quick to clarify, “Despite what others might think, I have never served in the military. My commitment to discipline comes from a belief in its importance for success and order.”

But Burt is more than just a disciplined leader. She leads with heart, always showing compassion, understanding, and genuine care for the well-being of her students, staff, and parents. “Watching students grow, learn, and overcome challenges fuels my passion to lead and innovate,” she shares.

For Burt, the joy of being a principal comes from the relationships she builds. She looks forward to connecting with parents, collaborating with teachers, and seeing her students’ overcome obstacles and grow.

At the end of the day, Burt’s wish is for every child to reach their full potential and find success in all areas of life. “My hope is that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams, supported by the care and encouragement they need to thrive—especially here at Holly Park Academy.”

Quick Facts:
  • When she’s not at school, Principal Burt enjoys relaxing on her patio with good music and spending quality time with family and friends.
  • Her favorite meal is chicken with macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and a slice of pecan pie for dessert.
  • She loves the fall season, especially because it brings her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving!
