A new specials class at Gate City Charter Academy is gaining momentum as it nears enrollment of 50 students.
Kasey Polk, music teacher at Gate City, created the unique sixth-grade class called music production.
“It is growing and innovating on almost a daily basis,” said Natasha Robertson, principal of Gate City. “The performance band has ballooned to a whopping 48 musicians.”
In the class, students write their own music and listen to it with their peers. Students work to refine their pieces with the help of others in the class. The size of the class makes it the largest school band in the area.
Way to go, GCCA!
