Celebrating Field Day with Freddy Roa’s Special T-Shirt Design

Many schools close out the academic year with a friendly competition on Field Day, and this year at Foundations Academy, that included a T-shirt design contest.

Principal Libby Rowe shared the story behind the winning design. Students were invited to submit their designs for the Field Day T-shirt, and the response was huge with more than 60 students participating. “First, the staff picked their favorites, and then the students voted to choose the winning design,” explained Rowe.

The winning design came from sixth-grade student Freddy Roa, a new student at Foundations Academy this year from Venezuela. Freddy and his sister Maria arrived at the school speaking almost no English. However, according to Rowe, they’ve made remarkable progress since then. Freddy’s design, featuring the school’s mascot, was a big hit with the entire school. "The best part," Rowe added, "is that he shares a name with our mascot, Freddy the Falcon!"

Freddy signed his winning drawing, which was then printed on hundreds of shirts for his classmates and teachers to wear on Field Day. “To see his drawing featured on 800 T-shirts was absolutely inspiring.”

The event was filled with excitement and camaraderie as students participated in races, games, and other activities, all proudly wearing their new T-shirts. Rowe expressed her hope that they can do the T-shirt contest again in the future.

What a fantastic way to celebrate Field Day, Freddy, and the creativity of students at Foundations Academy!
