Communities are joining hands to support those impacted by Covid-19, and Center Line Preparatory Academy is one of those who are passionately serving their community and lending a helping hand.
Center Line, managed by National Heritage Academies (NHA), is set to open in September 2020, and is already doing what they can to help to lend a hand to those who are serving on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. This sets the trajectory for what’s most important to the school and what the heart of their school community will be, and already is.
To show compassion during these tough times, Center Line partnered with Royal Kabob and donated 150 meals to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. This was a way to thank healthcare providers and support a local business in Hamtramck. The restaurant prepared the food and delivered the meals to the hospital for lunch on Friday, April 10.
NHA is passionate about developing the whole student, heart and character included. This includes infusing Moral Focus virtues like gratitude, compassion, and perseverance into their education. This practice is infused in the school culture, even if students aren’t in the building yet.
Giving back is so important to Rosalind Burt, founding principal at Center Line. This importance stems from opportunities that were afforded to her at a young age and she always said that she would do the same when she became an adult. “Partnerships in the community are something that I truly believe in. I've always looked for ways to give back in the communities that my schools have been located,” she shared.
Afaf Saleh, admissions representative at Center Line, shared her passion for helping those in need, “A helping hand goes a long way and changes a situation for the good. When we help and work together, we are putting a smile on someone’s face. In this situation we have practiced that stepping up and helping our healthcare providers is the least that we can do.”
Compassion is to help and care for others during times of need, which is exactly what Center Line extended as they showed healthcare workers that they care and are there to help during these tough times. Not only was compassion practiced but also gratitude, another one of NHA’s Moral Focus virtues. “We are showing our healthcare providers that we are grateful for the hospital staff. We are also appreciative that they are treating patients while putting their lives on the line each day,” explained Saleh.
The hospital staff was grateful that they received lunch from Center Line. An email from an employee at Beaumont hospital was shared with Saleh, “I know your donation went over very well with the staff and nurses who appreciate quality food as a recognition for their work here and we thank you.”
