Guidance Counselor Helps with High School Applications, Hosts Informative Event

There are plenty of choices to be made in the daily lives of Brooklyn Scholars Charter School students, and recently they had some help identifying the options ahead of them as they consider choices for a high school next year.

School Guidance Counselor Dinahlee Colon has worked to take some of the questions out of the process, and Executive Principal Roxanne Thomas wrote some very nice words about her and the event she created. Read her thoughts below:

Applying to high school in New York City can feel overwhelming, but thanks to dedicated guidance counselor, Dinahlee Colon, families of eighth graders received invaluable support during a recent parent learning event. Ms. Colon took the initiative to not only guide families through the application process but also turned the event into an exciting high school fair by inviting several schools to share information about their unique programs.

B-SMART High School, renowned for its STEM program, showcased its impressive robotics club, while Abraham Lincoln High School, known for its technology program, wowed attendees with a demonstration of their cutting-edge drones. Families were able to ask questions, explore their options, and get a deeper understanding of what each school has to offer.

The event was a hit among eighth-grade students and their families, many of whom expressed their gratitude for the experience. Several parents echoed the need for more sessions like this, suggesting even more schools be invited in the future.

Ms. Colon’s dedication and energy truly made this event a success, creating a valuable experience for our families. Kudos to her for a job well done in helping to make a potentially stressful process more manageable and exciting!
