“The Future Billionaire’s Brunch was more than just an event—it was a launchpad for dreams,” said Brooklyn Scholars Principal Roxanne Thomas. “From the opening moments, the energy in the room was palpable. Ezra Boyce, our esteemed eighth-grade social studies teacher, set the tone by quoting our mission statement: ‘We will involve the community in our school – and our school in the community – for the improvement of both.’ His words resonated throughout the day as students immersed themselves in activities and conversations designed to inspire their futures.”
Scholars rotated through a variety of engaging stations, each offering a unique learning experience. They were exposed to careers in fields as diverse as law enforcement with FBI agents, the military with an army sergeant, fashion design, music, and mental health therapy. These professionals shared their journeys and offered invaluable advice, sparking curiosity and ambition in our future leaders.
The students’ excitement was infectious as they competed in a push-up challenge led by the army sergeant and explored coding with robotics, led by teachers Brian Dillon and Carneke Gibbs. They also honed practical life skills, including tying a tie with teachers Thomas Lerner and Stephen Weisser and learning about personal hygiene with Michael Ryan. Each station was a treasure trove of knowledge, and the enthusiasm from students and parents alike was overwhelming.
“Parents who attended praised the event’s organization and impact, with many commenting on how engaging and inspiring the presentations were,” Thomas said. The smiles and energy from both students and parents were a testament to the event’s success.”
One of the day’s highlights was the chance to interact with the FBI, a rare and thrilling opportunity for many scholars. The experience of shaking hands with agents and hearing firsthand about their careers left a lasting impression.
The Future Billionaire’s Brunch embodied the spirit of Brooklyn Scholars Charter School’s commitment to holistic education and community partnership. By exposing our young men to a world of possibilities, we empowered them to envision bright futures while grounding them in essential skills and values.
“A special thank you goes to Jamel Fung for organizing this incredible event and to all the professionals and parents who made the day unforgettable,” Thomas said. Together, we continue to make our mission a reality, inspiring the next generation to achieve greatness.
