Brooklyn Scholars Charter School Hosts First-ever STEAM Innovators Fair

Brooklyn Scholars Charter School recently held its first-ever STEAM Innovators Fair. During the 2018-19 school year, students worked diligently on science and technology-driven projects that encourage classroom collaboration, effective communication, critical thinking skills, and offered an opportunity to showcase their creativity.

Students who engaged with STEAM curriculum throughout the year in second- through eighth-grade had an opportunity to participate and become a finalist in the fair. The primary objective of this event aimed to encourage students to approach a problem scientifically using the engineering design process.

“STEAM education is extremely important because these skills will prepare the next generation of Americans to grow the economy, create jobs, and help fix or stabilize real-world problems,” said Gillian Bartlett, STEAM teacher at Brooklyn Scholars Charter School.

Brooklyn Scholars placed a heavy emphasis on encouraging scholars to become STEAM thinkers and to develop a love for learning and an unwavering interest in STEAM-related fields.

“The STEAM Innovators Fair was designed to create opportunities for students to learn about the importance of STEAM education, and to expose students to related careers and opportunities in the future,” said Bartlett.
