Did you know scientific studies have found that when you work on a jigsaw puzzle, you use both sides of your brain? While puzzles are fun and challenging — they also stimulate a number of brain-boosting skills like cognitive function, problem-solving, logic, language and even improve our memory. Puzzle-solving produces other benefits too, like:
- Increased concentration
- Expanded creativity
- Greater alertness
- Lowers our breathing and heart rates and even our blood pressure!
- Induces peace and calmness of mind
Plus, puzzles are an excellent way to learn, connect and have fun with those you love!
National Puzzle Day was created a decade ago by Jodi Hill, a syndicated puzzle columnist, author and the creator the weekly “Brain Baffler” puzzle shared nationwide for the last 20 years. We think the best way to celebrate this unofficial holiday is to gather your family around the table and solve a puzzle together, but there are also plenty of places you can play online to get your puzzle fix!
