Apex-area Charter School Honored with Two Maggy Awards

Peak Charter Academy named Best Public School, and Principal Steve Pond named Best Elementary Principal

APEX, N.C., Jan. 8, 2019 – Peak Charter Academy announced today that it was named the Best Public School, and Principal Steve Pond was named the Best Elementary Principal, in Cary Magazine’s annual Maggy Awards.

Every January, Cary Magazine publishes a list of readers’ choices that features local businesses and service providers that “help make life great in Western Wake County.” This is the first time that Peak has been named since opening in 2017.

“We truly appreciate the recognition and support we have received from the community since we opened as a new school last year,” said Steve Pond, principal at Peak. “It is our honor and privilege to serve our students and the families at Peak Charter Academy, and we hope to always be the best at that.”

The article shared that Peak has “earned marks from fans of its college readiness curriculum and its dedication to social and emotional growth for students.” Peak’s monthly service initiatives and student community involvement were also mentioned.

As Peak’s founding principal, Pond has brought extensive educational leadership experience to the school and its surrounding community.

Peak currently serves nearly 700 students who focus on academic excellence and a school-wide Moral Focus curriculum, which teaches students to be well-rounded individuals by teaching monthly virtues such as gratitude and encouragement.
