Ten National Heritage Academies’ (NHA) schools take the Top 10 spots in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Best Charter Middle Schools list. A leader in education since its founding in 1995, NHA also saw 21 of its schools place in the top 10 for best charter schools lists.
“We’re excited to see recognition for the hard work our students, teachers, and staff have put in to accomplish these high marks,” NHA President and CEO Brian Britton said. “All of our schools are focused on teaching children to be their best, and we appreciate the trust their parents have in us to accomplish that task.”
NHA middle and elementary schools in Michigan (18), North Carolina (2), and Ohio (1) include:

In Ohio, Stambaugh Charter Academy in Youngstown ranked sixth on the list of charter middle schools in the state.
"Our students excel in their classroom environment because of the well-rounded curriculum they’re provided,” Britton said. “Combining traditional studies with a character-based approach to learning through our Moral Focus values helps these young people find success in whatever they choose to do.”
This marks the inaugural “Best” middle and elementary school lists created by U.S. News & World Report, while their high school and college-focused lists have been go-to resources for parents and students for years.
Rankings were determined by analyzing math and reading proficiency, state assessments and how schools performed compared to expectations. State assessments from the 2018-19 school year were used to limit the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on test results.
