The start of a new year oftentimes brings about reflection on the previous year. The month of January created many of those opportunities, and as we look back on some of our favorite stories from the month of January, we’d like to feature one about a teacher who is looking ahead.
Stambaugh Charter Academy First-grade Teacher Shana Timblin was diagnosed with breast cancer just two months after starting her teaching career in 2022. Determined to continue teaching throughout her treatment, she was elated when Stambaugh students and staff rallied around her with support during each moment.
Students raised money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and presented her with a big check during an assembly. They continue to support Ms. Timblin throughout her journey.

Stambaugh students helped Shana Timblin celebrate finishing chemotherapy in October.
“I just kept thinking, ‘I’m going to get beyond this cancer.’ I want to still be taking the steps and growing and connecting here,” she said. “Because of the diagnosis I’m most proud that I’m at least still here and able to both work and take on this cancer battle. Truly, it’s a testament to the staff and the leadership here because they have all been amazing.”Students raised money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and presented her with a big check during an assembly.
