Excellence in Teaching Winner Grows as a Leader
Published: Aug 08, 2024
The National Heritage Academies (NHA) summer internship program prepares college students for the real world by working on meaningful projects, making connections, and transforming lives.
“Our goal is college readiness, and by hiring college students in the internship program, we extend our vision by supporting students even once they’re in college,” said Brian Britton, CEO at National Heritage Academies. “Some of our interns are from our family – either by relatives who work here or from having attended one of our schools. I love to see this progression and watching our organization grow. The NHA internship program is a way for us to expand our family and share our purpose with future talent.”
Meet this summer’s Partner Services interns!
Partner Services Interns
The Partner Services/Government Relations interns are working on several projects this year, including market research to support the development of new NHA-partner schools, competitive intelligence on other Charter and Education Management Organizations, various legislative research, and support for NHA’s Board Relations and Renewal efforts.
Jack Lorenz
Jack studies Advertising Management at Michigan State University. Jack heard great things from past NHA interns about NHA and the culture at the Service Center, which led him to intern here. Jack previously worked for Nick Paradiso at a concession stand. “He was so much fun to work for back then, and nothing has changed so far,” said Jack.
He’s excited to get hands-on experience in the office, especially in person. “It was hard to be virtual the entire last year and a half, so it is a breath of fresh air to finally be able to get to know my coworkers and interact with them on a personal level,” he said.
Jack’s favorite part of his internship so far has been meeting all of the people within his department as well as other interns. “Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming within the Partner Services and Government Relations teams, and it has made the transition into the company a very easy process.”
Luke Rufenacht
Luke studies Political Science and Business at Hope College. His motivation for interning at NHA grew from his desire to go into education after college. “Being a Partner Services intern, I can combine several interests,” he said. “This position allows me to work through the business aspect of education and the government relations side. I also had heard great things about the company workplace and community, and it seemed like a great team to join!”
Luke has learned that NHA has a large impact the schools have on the communities they serve. “There are so many students who benefit from being at an NHA school, and it is inspiring to see that work being done,” he said.
Luke’s favorite part about being an intern so far has been the way he has been welcomed into the team and has been able to jump into projects. “I have appreciated being able to connect with many different people within Partner Services and Government Relations and trying to help in any way I can,” he said.
