July 29, 2021 was National Intern Day, and what better reason to celebrate these vital employees for helping us grow minds and inspire hearts.
The National Heritage Academies (NHA) summer internship program prepares college students for the real world by working on meaningful projects, making connections, and transforming lives.
“It’s incredible to see these young minds come in on the first day of the program. By the end of the summer, they’ve learned so much, contributed to our organization, and helped make a difference in the lives of our students,” said Rachel Ichesco, workforce planning consultant and internship program coordinator. “The connections they make and the network they grow from their time at NHA is something they can take with them into the rest of their education and into the workforce.”
Meet this summer’s Financial Services and Digital Marketing interns!
Jonah Witte, Financial Services Audit Intern
As an audit intern, Jonah works with the Accounting team and outside audit firms. Some of the responsibilities of the role include pulling documentation for general and state compliance items, preparing financial statements, and being a liaison between NHA and outside auditors.
Jonah studies Accounting at Calvin University. Jonah’s reason for joining NHA as an intern stemmed from knowing his experience working in finance would be rewarding and unique.
“I’m excited that I get to work with so many different people from different departments and different firms,” he said. “My favorite thing so far about NHA is my coworkers. I have felt very welcome here since day one and people are always willing to help me out and show me the ropes.”
Bethany Hubsel, Digital Marketing Intern
As the Digital Marketing Intern, Bethany works diligently over the summer on digital advertising campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, and Google to help fill under-enrolled schools.
While she was a student at Timberland Charter Academy from kindergarten to fifth grade, Bethany now studies Integrated Marketing Communication at Albion College. Bethany thought this internship sounded like a great opportunity for professional development and the chance to work with a lot of fun people in an area she wanted more experience in.
“I’m super excited to get more experience in digital marketing,” she said. “I have limited experience outside of social media marketing, so it is exciting to branch beyond that into advertising and create new campaigns for some of the schools.”
Bethany’s favorite part about working at NHA thus far has been the people. “It has been great to work with so many helpful and friendly people, especially after having so many remote events in the last year,” she said.
