Atlanta Heights Charter School Board Awards Deserving Student the 2019 AHCS Trailblazer Scholarship
ATLANTA, Ga., Aug. 12, 2019 — The Atlanta Heights Charter School (AHCS) board recently named Malcolm Delfish the recipient of the 2019 AHCH Trailblazer Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded to deserving recipients every spring. The school board awarded the scholarship during AHCS’s eighth-grade graduation in May. During the ceremony, Delfish addressed the graduating class and reflected on his experiences at Atlanta Heights before sharing his plans for college. Delfish attended AHCS for four years before attending Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School.
This was the second year for the scholarship, which will be open for submissions for the 2019-20 school year this winter. To apply, students must graduate eighth-grade from AHCA and have attended the school for a minimum of two years.
"We began this grace foundation to start the journey for our alumni students who will always be part of Atlanta Heights Charter School family," said Ronald S. Skeete, vice president of the AHCS Board.
Delfish is set to attend Georgetown University this fall where he will major in human science. He attributes his interest in science to his early years at Atlanta Heights.
“My favorite memory at AHCS was a game we played in sixth-grade science with our teacher Mr. Hargons,” said Delfish. “The game was the first time that science stuck out to me as more than a passing interest.”
Throughout his education, he participated in a variety of extracurricular activities, including four years of Taekwondo, nearly two years with the National Honor Society, three years with Campus Ministry, one year as his school’s yearbook co-leader, and four years as co-chief editor at his school newspaper.
“This scholarship proved to me that you can always make a way to follow your ambitions with hard work and finding the right opportunities,” said Delfish.
Delfish offered the following advice to current AHCS students, “always look for opportunities because they really are everywhere. Make connections to new people, people you might not talk to otherwise, and see how they can help you grow.”
